ACCESS STATEMENT FOR HEATHWOOD GUEST HOUSE , DORSET

Introduction

We aim to cater for all the needs of all who visit Heathwood guest house. We have 8 guest rooms . 1 of which is on the ground floor. The following statement is a summary of our provision.

Pre-Arrival

We are approx 2 miles from the city centre.
There is a bus stop near to our house and there is a frequent bus service.
The main train station is a few minutes by car.
There are a number of local taxis which offer a good service. We can supply contact numbers so that you may make a booking if necessary.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

Please advise us of your anticipated time of arrival so that we can be sure we are here to welcome you.
We have a large tarmac car park with marked parking bays.
The front door is always locked but we have a press door bell in the door canopy at the height of 136cm..
We are able to assist guests with luggage if this is required.

Main Entrance & Reception

The front door is 83cm wide & the step leading into the hallway is 22cm high.
Entrance into our carpeted hallway is 110cm wide.
On arrival guests are shown to their room & our facilities are explained.
A registration form is given which they must complete.

Public Areas- General information

Our Dining Room & 1 en-suite double room are on the ground floor.The ground floor corridor is 110cm wide & carpeted.
The covering on the stairs & upstairs corridors is fully carpeted. There are 13 stairs leading to a small landing followed by a further 3 stairs to the upper landings and first floor bedrooms (double/twin/single en-suite rooms). The stairs are 17cm high, 22cm deep & 85cm wide.

Dining Room

Breakfast is served in our Dining Room on the ground floor & is accessed from our Reception Hall. The entry is level & the door width is 67cm. The are 5 tables, 1 seating 4, 2 seating 3 & the rest seating 2. The 4 seater table is 137cm long x 64 cm wide 71cm high, the 3 seaters are 96cm round x72cm high & the 2 seaters are 30cm square x 77cm high. Chairs are without arms. The television is on low normally showing the news

Vegetarians are catered for

Laundry

Laundry facilities are not available on the premises but there is a launderette within 10 minutes walking distance - Viking Launderette, Wimborne Road.

Shop

The nearest shopping facility is One Stop only a couple of minutes walk also in the same row is a hairdressers, chemist, car accessories, pizza take away, fishing shop & estate agents.

Leisure Facilities

The Dolphin centre in the city centre offers a swimming pool and gym- 5 minutes drive

Outdoor Facilities

Poole park has boating lakes, childrens play areas, tennis courts, café & Italian bar/restaurant called Mezza Luna

Bedrooms

There is central heating throughout the house. The temperature of each guest bedroom is controlled by thermostatic controls on the radiators. The beds are made with hollow fibre duvets. Each bedroom has a 'hospitality tray' with tea , coffee, hot chocolate & a biscuit. In each room there is a hairdryer, a clock radio & a flat screen televison with freeview. Each room has storage space which usually consists of a wardrobe, bedside cabinet & dressing table with mirror over. (single rooms do not have dressing tables)

Average bed height is 58cm, average width of doorways (room entrance) is 77cm. In en-suite facilities-en-suite doorways average width is 61cm, average WC height is 43cm, average height of wash basin is 85cm

Ground floor-Guest bedroom can be set as a king or twin room. There is a rattan style chair & a dressing table with stool. The en-suite has a toilet & walk-in shower cubicle. The step into the shower is 15cm. The wash basin is in the room. The space between the furniture/ radiator & the bed (as a double) is 93 cm.

Upper landing bedrooms

Guest bedroom no-1 (approx 2.8m x3m) has a double bed, en-suite shower cubicle step is 24cm.There is a wicker chair & padded stool.

Guest bedroom no-2 (approx 5m x3.5m) can either be set as a king size bed or twins. The en-suite has a bath 53cm high with shower over & wc. The basin is set in a vanity unit in the bedroom. There is a stool & armchair.

Guest bedroom no-3 (approx 2.6m x3.3m) can either be set as a king size bed or twins .The en-suite shower cubicle step is 17cm high with wc. The basin is set in a vanity unit in the room. There are 2 padded stools.

Guest bedroom no-4 (approx 4.1m x 2.4m) has a double bed. The en-suite shower cubicle step is 18cm high with wc. The basin is set in a vanity unit in room. There is 1 padded chair.

Guest bedroom no-5 (approx 3.7m x 2.9m). The en-suite consists of corner bath 58cm high with shower over, basin 80cm high & wc. There are 2 padded chairs.

Guest bedroom no-6&7 (approx 4.7m x 1.8m) consists of a single bed, built in wardrobe, 2 bedside cupboards & 1 wicker chair. The en-suite shower cubicle step is 17cm high with wc. The basin is set in a vanity unit in room.

Grounds & Gardens

To the front of the house is the enclosed car park, one side is a wooden fence the other side has a hedge with some garden shrubbery. In front of the house is some plants in large pots.

Additional Information

The owner is allergic to pets so we are sorry but we cannot accept them.
We are totally non-smoking, but we have a pot for cigarette ends in the car park.

There is a fire extinguisher in the entrance hall & the upper landing.
We are able to use the front & rear doors should evacuation be necessary. The fire alarm rings continuously if evacuation is needed. If you need assistance in this kind of emergency (eg hearing impairment) please let us know on arrival & we will ensure that you are evacuated safely.

A small fridge can be made available for medication etc.

A selection of local information is available in our displays in the entrance hall.

There is a folder in each guest bedroom which gives tourist information about Poole & the surrounding area.

Further information about the Heathwood routines & emergencies is displayed on the inside of each bedroom door.

Future Plans

We are currently undergoing a refurbishment program which includes all guest bedrooms & the dining room.
